This morning, the Regional Office for Protection and Rescue of Dubrovnik, with the patronage of the Municipality of Ston, organized an exhibition of works by children and youth from the entire Dubrovnik-Neretva County, as part of the Competition for Artistic, Literary, and Photographic Works by Children and Youth on the Theme of Disasters and the Strength of the Civil Protection System, held at the Rector’s palace in Ston.

For the seventh year in a row, the State Administration for Protection and Rescue has been organizing the competition with the aim of raising students' awareness about the risks of disasters. The themes of the works were related to natural and technological disasters in Croatia and around the world, as well as the actions of the civil protection system and emergency services.

During the opening of the exhibition, an award ceremony was held to honour the best works at the county level. The youngest participants who received awards were children from county kindergartens: Lora Kukuljica (Škatulica Kindergarten), Nikola Bulum (Metković Kindergarten), and Patricija Dropulić (Staševica Branch Kindergarten). In the category of art works by students up to the fourth grade of elementary schools, the winners were Maroje Mašković from Župa Dubrovačka Elementary School, Petra Cvjetanović from Ston Elementary School, and Petra Milošević from the Montovjerna Branch of the Kanavelić Elementary School. Among the older elementary school students, awards were given to Ivana Tolj from the Orebić Elementary School, and Marija Penjak and Vito Favro from the Petra Kanavelić Elementary School in Korčula.

In the category of literary works by students in the lower grades of elementary schools, the winners were Nika Alamat, Marina Aletić, and Bruna Bukvić, all fourth-grade students of the Montovjerna Branch Elementary School. In the category of literary works by students in the final grades of elementary schools, the winners were Nika Matana from Lapad Elementary School, Ilia Letunić from Gruda Elementary School, and Martina Radić from Ston Elementary School.

Unfortunately, this year high school students did not participate in the category of photographic works, and there were no literary works from students in schools with special educational needs. However, among the numerous artistic works by students with special educational needs, the winners were Frane Markota from Don Mihovil Pavlinović Elementary School in Metković, as well as Ana Vatrić and Tomislav Đuraš from Gruda Elementary School.

Ana Miličić, head of the Regional Office for Protection and Rescue of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County, said more on the occasion of the opening of the exhibition, whose authors are the youngest from older preschool age to the final grades of primary and secondary schools.

- Thank you to the municipality of Ston as the sponsor of the exhibition and event, and equally thank you to all the participants of the competition who send us more and more works every year. This year, too, we had a very difficult task to choose the best from a total of 247 submitted art and literary works. But it's no secret that the choice was ungrateful because we found each work beautiful in a special way, and that's why we organize final exhibitions in the territory of our county in order to present the wealth of expression of our young fellow citizens to the general public - said Miličić.
